Mental health and addiction services highlighted at open house

Over 20 local agencies will come together this weekend to help individuals and families dealing with mental health and addiction.

There will be an open house at the Unifor 914 Union Hall on Indian Road on Saturday, September 28.

Bluewater Health's Laurie Hicks said groups such as Lambton Wellness Centre, Inn of the Good Shepherd, Rapids Family Health Team, and Narcotics Anonymous will be on hand to provide resources and support.

"When somebody comes to you and says I need help and you don't know where to look, this will educate everybody, give you the information that you need so you're equipped when somebody asks you for help and you can help guide them," said Hicks. "And it's also for the people themselves that are struggling, to come and find out what their options are."

Bluewater Health's Donna Morreau said residents can also learn more about the Community Health Integrated Team.

"So that's a new program that launched in June, and it is a partnership with Lambton County EMS as well as addiction services at Bluewater Health and they are an outreach team," said Morreau.

She said the Mobile Care Bus will also be on site for residents to explore.

"For those that don't know, the Mobile Bus is a community partnership," said Morreau. "Primary care from North Lambton CHC will be on the bus, mental health from CMHA and addiction services from Bluewater Health. It is out in the community and there is a schedule online, but we want people to see it, so to identify it when it is in your community, if you need to access any care."

Free naloxone kits and training will also be provided by Lambton Public Health.

The open house runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.

A complimentary lunch and drinks will also be provided.
