Workplace assault sends three to hospital in Sarnia

A 23-year-old Sarnia man is facing weapons and assault charges after he was accused of assaulting a co-worker with a pipe.

Sarnia police were called to a business at around 8 a.m. on October 1, after a verbal exchange between employees escalated.

Police allege the accused struck a victim in the back of the head with a pipe, before shifting his attention to several other workers who were either in the vicinity or attempted to intervene.

Those workers were also assaulted with a variety of weapons including a pipe, hammer, and large piece of rebar.

Sarnia police allege the accused smashed the window of a vehicle in the area as well.

"The Sarnia Police (Service) responded to the incident and arrested the accused a short distance away, as he fled the location," a news release stated. "This arrest occurred without incident. Three victims were transported to hospital by ambulance as a result of their injuries. Specific results of their injuries are yet to be determined by the Sarnia Police (Service)."

Sarnia police have charged Carson Rising, 23, with six counts of assault with a weapon, four counts of assault causing bodily harm, three counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and mischief under $5,000.

He was held for a bail hearing before being released by the courts with a court date of October 17, 2024.

Sarnia News Today asked Sarnia police to confirm the name of the workplace.

Spokesperson Marika Sylvain Groendyk said "we won’t confirm the exact location/company where the incident occurred."
