Lambton County is showcasing job opportunities in child care with a career fair.
On Tuesday, many child care centres from across the county will be at Sarnia Polish Hall on Exmouth Street to discuss careers in the Early Childhood Education (ECE) sector.
It's meant for people to network, apply for positions, discuss opportunities, and learn more about the field.
Point Edward Early Learning Centre Executive Director Lindsay Liles said there is a shortage of ECEs.
"Throughout the county we have been short ECEs for quite some time. That's one of the reasons why they've incorporated the fast track program at Lambton College to try and get more individuals involved in the ECE program," she said.
The program will get them licensed and into the field faster.
Low wages and children's behaviours are believed to be some of the reasons there is a shortage.
"Any ECE, if they're interested in getting a job in a child care centre, come check out this job fair," said Liles.
Liles said at the Point Edward Early Learning Centre they are always looking for staff.
"If there's anybody interested in coming to check out our centre then they are more than welcome to come see us," she said.
Liles explained the job fair is a way for all ECEs to come together.
"It brings ECE's into one location and it also brings a stronger community because all of the child care centres are getting together," she said.
The free drop-in event Tuesday is on from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The Lambton Works Centre will also be onsite to review resumes, provide job search advice and offer ongoing employment supports for those who are eligible.
