The Sarnia-Lambton United Way fundraising campaign has raised another $59,000 in the last week, up to around $817,000.
That's about 55 per cent of the $1.487 million goal.
Director of Development and Communications Ryan Doyle said since the official launch of the 14 week campaign in September, they've been tracking ahead of last year's pace.
"We're over halfway through the campaign and we're over half the dollars raised," said Doyle. "We're trending well for the year so we're excited and we're hoping we can continue the momentum as we narrow into the end."
Doyle said funds raised support 17 area agencies including Lambton Elderly Outreach, Sarnia-Lambton Rebound and River City Vineyard.
"If we don't reach goal by the end of the year, yes we do have to do a review process to see what existing charities can maintain funding and what will have to decrease funding," he said. "It's heartbreaking to do really. We know the people who run these programs, we know how tight their budgets are and any year we have to cut funding, like there's tears, it's a tough conversation."
Applications for the next round of yearly funding through the United Way are now being accepted.
