Big Brothers/Sisters welcomes new vendors at Show and Sale

Over 100 vendors will be at this year's Big Brothers Big Sisters of Sarnia-Lambton Fall Show and Sale.

Money raised from the two-day event will go towards recruitment and volunteer retention strategies and group programming in Lambton County.

Executive Director Kaylen Burgess said currently there are a large number of boys on their waitlist.

"Roughly 80 per cent of our waitlist is looking for a big brother," she said. "Recently we've been able to hire a new caseworker to focus on decreasing that waitlist and specifically focusing on our county youth."

Burgess said there tends to be more big sister volunteers.

"We're hoping with this new position, we can help provide [boys] with the services they are coming to us for," she said.

There will be some new vendors at this year's event.

"We really try to keep it relevant and new for our shoppers. So, out of the 108 [vendors] there are a lot of new ones coming in," Burgess said.

She said the event has a strong response from the community.

"There's honestly something for everybody at this event. We've got a ton of food this year, which is something new that we've added, it's something that we've grown on over the last couple of years," Burgess said.

The 51st annual Fall Show and Sale at Alexander Mackenzie Secondary School is on Saturday, November 9 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., and on Sunday, November 10 from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

"There's something for the kids, there's stuff for your home, lots of great holiday shopping all while supporting a great cause," said Burgess.

Admission is $10, and children 12 and under are free.
