Busy November for Sarnia-Lambton United Way campaign

The Sarnia-Lambton United Way campaign is just shy of the 60 per cent mark.

Director of Development and Communications Ryan Doyle said to date, the annual initiative has brought in $880,000.

He said they're optimistic they'll reach their $1.487 million target by the end of the year.

"We've been tracking ahead this whole time," said Doyle. "We blipped down I think two weeks ago a little but then we had some donations come in that put us back over the year-to-date goals."

Doyle said November has been a busy month for the campaign.

"Our two major ones are starting to wrap up, he said. "So we have Imperial and NOVA's employee campaigns, they are both wrapping up near the end of November and hopefully we'll have some final numbers to announce in December. Those are two huge campaigns, huge pieces of what pays for our programs. Kent PLC is still running their first campaign ever, and they're starting this week."

November also saw the launch of the first ever Novemburger, where $2 from specialty burgers at participating restaurants will go to the United Way.

A total of 16 restaurants across Sarnia-Lambton are signed on.

Doyle said while they're very pleased with how the campaign has gone so far, there's always some concern.

"I think we're trending well," he said. "We sat down, crunched the numbers and kind of did some forecasting, so I think we're doing well. We never know until we know. So it will be late December, and there might be some big donations that haven't come in yet that we'll be looking for. We do have some large donors that do wait until the very end of the year to come in. So really just waiting for those, we're always on pins and needles."

The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton funds 17 agencies providing 29 programs and services to the community.
