National Chamber of Commerce calls on feds to help end Canada Post strike

The Canadian Chamber of Commerce is calling on the federal government to intervene in the Canada Post strike.

They claim the work stoppage has been heavily impacting entrepreneurs and small businesses since many rely on the mailing service especially during the holiday season.

“This is only exacerbated in northern, rural, and remote communities where alternatives to Canada Post are not available,” read a letter sent to Steven MacKinnon, Minister of Labour Relations and Seniors, and Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Public Services and Procurement.

The strike is now in its 16th day. Canada Post states they’re down over 10 million parcels in that time.

“While we acknowledge your engagement and efforts to have all parties resume negotiations alongside federal mediators, Canadian families, communities, and businesses need to see a resolution,” added the national chamber’s statement.

They added this strike is another hurdle entrepreneurs and small businesses have had to deal with in the past few years.

Other hurdles they mentioned included the COVID-19 pandemic, last year’s port strike, and the ongoing labour disputes within CN Rail.
