Petrolia hosts Christmas events, welcomes Santa

The Town of Petrolia will jump into the holiday spirit this weekend as several events are planned, with a special visit from Santa Claus.

Christmas in the Park will be held at Victoria Park on Friday, December 6, with music, crafts, and wagon rides.

The IODE Margaret Stokes Chapter will provide hot drinks and free cookies. Petrolia's service clubs will also take part in a chili cook off.

Mayor Brad Loosley will kick off the festive event by lighting up the park at 6 p.m.

“There is not a single event that we look forward to more than this one," said Director of Parks, Recreation and Facilities Julie Bullock. "The Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee members work very hard to make this a family-friendly event full of magic for children, and full of memories of more than 30 years of this celebration for adults. We are grateful to the service clubs and organizations that participate each year!”

On Saturday, Petrolia's outdoor Christmas Market will be held from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the farmer's market site on Fletcher Street.

The Santa Claus parade will be held at 2 p.m. in the downtown area. This year's theme is celebrating Petrolia 150, as the town has been holding several events throughout this past year to celebrate their milestone anniversary.

The parade will depart from Lambton Central Collegiate & Vocational Institute and will go west onto Dufferin Avenue, north on Maude Street, and east on Petrolia Line to Oil Street.

After the parade, Santa will visit the Petrolia YMCA.

Families are welcome to attend for a free photo with Jolly Old St. Nick. Crafts and treats will also be available.

Letters to Santa can be dropped off in a special mailbox at the YMCA; alternatively, emails can be sent to letterstosanta@petrolia.ca. Emails and letters will be accepted until December 12.Those with a return address will receive a reply.
