Flooding forces road closures in Lambton county

Rising water levels have prompted the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority (SCRCA) to issue a flood watch for the watershed.

Between 15 and 45 millimetres of rain has fallen over the past 48 hours.

The SCRCA said the ground is saturated and water levels are still rising.

Stanley Line is closed from Kimball Road to Waubuno Road, Pretty Road is closed from Stanley Line to McCallum Line, and Plowing Match Road is shut down from Petrolia Line to Rokeby Line.

The forecast is calling for above-freezing daytime temperatures Monday through Wednesday, with overnight temperatures hovering close to the freezing mark.

The SCRCA said additional rainfall amounts of trace to five millimetres is forecast for Tuesday for areas in the southern portion of the watershed (Wallaceburg), with the northern areas (Sarnia and Strathroy) forecast to receive trace amounts of rain and snow Tuesday and Wednesday.

More flooding is expected as the influx of water continues to move through the watershed to the southern reaches of the Sydenham River.

We're being reminded to avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to dangerous conditions, slippery banks and cold, swift moving water. Children and pets should be kept away from the water.

The conservation authority continues to monitor watershed conditions and said it will issue advisories to municipalities and media should flood issues arise.

The watch will remain in effect until 12 p.m. Thursday, January 2nd, 2025, unless otherwise updated.
