The Sarnia Sting are starting 2025 with arguably their biggest win of the season.
They hosted the London Knights on Wednesday and ended up winning 3-2 in overtime. Both teams played each other the day before with London coming out on top 9-3.
It was the Sting who opened the scoring on Wednesday when Dylan Luecke found the back of the net for his second of the year in the first period. Getting the assists on the play were Casey Bridgewater and Beckham Edwards.
Sarnia doubled its lead in the second period with a goal from Daylen Moses. His fourth goal was helped by Ruslan Karimov and James Barr.
London refused to go away quietly as they scored two goals in the third period to force overtime. The first goal came from Sam O’Reilly with the second being scored by Denver Barkey.
In overtime, London’s William Nicholl took a tripping penalty giving the Sting a power play. It was on the power play when Edwards found the back of the net to win the game for Sarnia. His 14th goal was assisted by Lukas Fischer and Mitch Young.
With the win, Sarnia’s record moves to 13-19-2-5, while London drops to 29-6-1-0.
