Strangway Centre set to showcase 2025 programming at open house

The Strangway Community Centre is showcasing its 2025 programming at an open house this weekend.

Activities Programmer Mike Neely said they historically hold the event on the first Saturday of the new year.

"Sticking with that theme, we'll have it on Saturday, January 4, 2025 with doors opening at 9:30 a.m. and closing around noon," Neely said. "We're really excited to do this yet again. I find it's a great opportunity for people from the public to come and visit and see the centre, tour around... but also get some one on one time with our variety of instructors."

Neely said they have over 85 recreational programs at the 260 East Street facility.

"I even see some individuals who attend the centre on a regular basis, who attend the open house and come away learning something. So, that's amazing to see, but also the new faces. It's always exciting to get to share how the centre works here and all of the different programs that we have to offer."

Neely said some of the new programs added this fall/winter are doing really well.

"We've introduced a couple different technology programs. We had a Windows laptop one just completed and was very well received and the other new one coming up in the new year is the rudimentary tech literacy program, so there's a few spots still open for that," he said.

Neely said their Latin Grooves dance sessions and language programs have also been a hit.

He said they were still looking for older adults to participate in a new pick-up hockey program starting on January 8.

"Programs for spring/summer will be viewable on March 4, and registration will open on March 18 at 8:30 a.m."

Neely said the Strangway Centre had 665 activity members in 2024 and 37 hobby shop members.

The centre’s programming is open to community members aged 20 and older, with both drop-in and registration programming.

Those unable to attend the open house can access programming using the city's recreation registration portal at sarnia.ca/recreation.

Interested participants can also call 519-332-0656 for more information and to register.
