Collection underway for Rotary Used Book Sale

Donations for the Sarnia Bluewaterland Rotary Club's 2025 Used Book Sale can be dropped off starting Friday.

Co-chair Dale Wilcox said they'll be accepting books during business hours at DeGroot's Nurseries on London Line in Sarnia from January 3 to January 28.

A drop off box will also be located outside for those unable to visit between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

"This year our whole effort is going to be concentrated in the month of January," said Wilcox. "So, we are anxious to get as many books in as early as possible and our first sale will be running two weeks after we start on January 17-18."

After that, Wilcox said the sale will be held the weekend of January 24-25 and January 31-February 1.

"We already have a large collection of children's books that have been donated, including a good selection of French books for children," she said.

Deliveries are also expected from several people who have been collecting from friends and family.

"We know that in the first few days we should take in the first couple of thousand books and we are looking for the rest to come from the community," said Wilcox. "We are excited that we should be having as good a selection as last year. The only thing is we are not accepting textbooks or encyclopedias."

Wilcox said a lot of people donate what they've purchased the year before.

"We laughed last year at the number who commented when they came in with their books to be dropped off that they would be seeing us at the sale again, and the ones who came to the sale and said 'we'll bring them back next year.' So, yes, we are in with a group of recyclers. That's for sure," she said.

Volunteers will be set up at DeGroots from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on each sale day once they start.
