Winner of $50K backyard makeover announced at Lambton Mall

The Alzheimer Society of Sarnia-Lambton is congratulating Mike Reid of Corunna, who won this year's $50,000 backyard makeover as part of the annual Home Improvement Lottery.

A draw for the winning ticket (#3617) was held at Lambton Mall Thursday afternoon and live streamed on Facebook.

"Thanks to your incredible generosity and support, we are thrilled to announce that the Backyard Lottery has grossed $78,000," read a Facebook post. "Every dollar raised will stay right here in our community, supporting over 3,000 people living with dementia and their 9,000 care partners."

The recipient of the backyard makeover will work with John DeGroot of DeGroot’s Nurseries.

Manager of Fund Development and Communications Marie Marcy-Smids told Sarnia News Today on Friday that Reid purchased three tickets to give to others who help him around the house. So while the winning ticket is his, the makeover was gifted to another couple.

Joanne Dunn of Corunna won last year's backyard makeover.

Next year's home improvement lottery prize will be a $50,000 custom kitchen makeover, provided by Bluewater Home Building Centre.
