Cold start to the year for construction activity in Sarnia

Construction activity was off to a slow start to the year in Sarnia.

In January, city hall issued a total of 22 building permits with a construction value of just over $1.2 million.

That's down from 31 permits with a total value of just over $3.8 million in January 2024.

The largest permit issued last month was for $250,000 for an agricultural building on Waterworks Road.

There was just one permit issued last month for a single family home in Sarnia.

The city is coming off a year that saw a total of 329 residential units created, including several apartment buildings.

New military crosswalk in Sarnia to be unveiled

As part of a partnership between the Sarnia Legion Branch 62 and City of Sarnia, an unveiling ceremony will be held at the corner of Christina Street and Wellington Street on Sunday, June 7, at 2 p.m.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
