Sarnia police responded to the collision just after midnight on Thursday at the intersection of Colborne Road and Berkshire Drive.

"Upon arrival, patrol officers discovered a 58-year-old male with serious injuries lying on the roadway, after being struck by a passenger motor vehicle," a news release said Thursday afternoon.

The vehicle and its driver remained at the scene.

"Lambton EMS arrived on scene and transported the male pedestrian to Bluewater Health. The patient was eventually transported to a London hospital where he remains in critical condition with life altering injuries," the news release added.

Further details, including possible charges, were not included in the update as the investigation continues.

Sarnia police had the intersection closed until just after 2 p.m. while officers from the traffic unit reconstructed the scene.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has video surveillance of the area to contact Constable Mike Ross at (519) 344-8861 extension 6216.
