Nearly 20 confirmed measles cases reported in Lambton

Since the outbreak of the measles in Ontario last October, there have been 19 cases reported in Lambton County.

Medical Officer of Health Dr. Karalyn Dueck provided the update to Lambton County Council from the latest Public Health Ontario report issued on May 27.

The report said since January 1, there have been a total of 1,696 confirmed cases of the virus across the province.

Among the positive cases, nine required hospitalization, eight were unimmunized infants, children and adolescents, and one was an unimmunized adult.

Measles symptoms usually occur within one to 12 days after exposure, but can appear up to 21 days later.

Symptoms can include fever, a red blotchy rash, red watery eyes, and white spots in the mouth.
