The Sarnia Polar Plunge for Special Olympics is back for another year.
On Saturday, March 8, members of the Sarnia Police Service, Lambton OPP, Canada Border Services Agency, as well as Corrections and other local residents will take an icy dip at Lambton College.
Sarnia Police Cst. Jocelyn Paquette said the inaugural event in 2024 raised over $35,000 and they're hoping to top that.
"Our goal this year is $40,000 we're hoping to raise and the funds go directly to Special Olympics," said Paquette.
She said spectators are welcome.
"The more the merrier, come and cheer on the plungers," said Paquette. "There's a barbecue that's going to take place put on by Corrections. Special Olympics is going to be on hand, our local representatives, and they're selling hot chocolate and coffee. There's also going to be a 50/50 raffle.
Plungers can register in advance online through the Polar Plunge Sarnia website.
Paquette said last year they had just over 100 people take the plunge.
"Registration starts at 11 a.m. and the plunge will begin at noon so anybody looking to register the day of should show up a bit early," said Paquette. "Don't forget your towel and we're just asking people to have fun with it, be safe, you an wear a costume if you choose to."
