Attempted robbery at Sarnia's Laurel Lea Park

Sarnia police are investigating an attempted robbery at Laurel Lea Park in the central part of the city.

Police said it happened on March 3 at 9:40 p.m. in the area of Eastwood Street and Southern Avenue.

A 20-year-old man was walking by the park after completing his shift at a nearby business.

Police said there were four men there, one of whom was passed out, and the other three started walking towards the young man.

It's alleged one of the men shouted at the victim, but he couldn't hear what they said because he had earbuds in.

Police said one of the men tried to pull a backpack off the victim's back, but he kneed the suspect in the abdomen. He was then chased by the three men but was able to outrun them.

Police said the white male suspect responsible for the attempted robbery is described as being in his 40s, and he wore a red plaid jacket with sores and scabs on his face.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sarnia Police Service, Criminal Investigations Division, and speak with Det. Cst. Jason Boyd at (519) 344-8861 extension 6209.

Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or submit tips online at www.p3tips.com.
