Cleanup efforts are continuing at Sarnia's Rainbow Park.
The city said this week crews will be undertaking a complete sweep of the park at Front Street and Johnston Street for garbage, biohazardous materials and sharp objects.
The sand at the playground will also be checked at depth for any debris.
Crews will also be applying an antimicrobial disinfectant to the entire playground area and equipment will be thoroughly cleaned including the benches, slides, climbers, and swings.
The city said heavy equipment will be brought in once the weather stabilizes to assist with further remediation including fence repairs. The sand at the playground will be replaced with wood chips and ruts and damage to the grass will be repaired and reseeded.
The park was cleared of a long-standing homeless encampment on February 20.
As of December 31, 2024, the city confirmed that $701,224 was spent on health and safety measures at Rainbow Park.
