Local babies to be honoured with new display at Bluewater Health

Bluewater Health will be recognizing babies born at the hospital for a small donation.

The Garden of Giving launched on March 20 and is a new initiative to support the Maternal Infant Child department.

Foundation Executive Director Kathy Alexander said parents or anyone wishing to celebrate new babies born at Bluewater Health can purchase a petal.

"For a $50 donation they get their first name and date of birth engraved on a flower for a five-year period," she said. "It's also a way to honour any losses that may be experienced as well."

Alexander added this is also an opportunity for grandparents to leave a gift for their new grandchild.

She said the foundation got the idea from other local hospitals.

"We love to learn from our partners across the sector and this is something we thought would be great to bring to Bluewater Heath and recognize all of those beautiful babies that are born here," Alexander said.

The money raised will go back into the local hospital's projects and programming.

"All of the funds from the Garden of Giving will be directly re-invested into patient care, the purchase of equipment and educational opportunities for the Maternal Infant Child department at Bluewater Health," Alexander said.

She said over 1,000 babies are born at the hospital each year.

"[The Garden of Giving] is a beautiful, new environment in the hallway leading into the Maternal Infant Child department filled with butterflies and flowers and colour," said Alexander.

Anyone looking to purchase a flower petal can do so on the foundation's website.
