Multiple arrests made in Laurel Lee neighbourhood

Sarnia Police made multiple arrests in separate incidents in the area of Exmouth Street and Indian Road.

On Thursday, March 27 police were called to a grocery store for a theft in progress at around 3:30 p.m.

Police said a man was observed stealing several packages of meat.

A loss prevention officer attempted to stop him but he refused to comply, exited the store and attempted to flee.

Police were already in the parking lot for an unrelated matter and saw the man getting into a nearby vehicle.

Investigators said officers ordered the driver and the man to exit the vehicle. They refused to comply and attempted to flee.

Police said out of the safety for people in the parking lot, officers had to break vehicle windows in order to conduct the arrest and prevent their escape.

A 36-year-old man Oneida man was arrested and remanded into custody and a 44-year-old woman from Moravian First Nation was arrested but was later released on conditions.

Twenty minutes later when police were still in the parking lot a second theft call came in from the same grocery store.

Security saw a woman committing a theft and was later arrested.

She was released at the scene with an undertaking.

Meantime, when police were still in the parking lot a distressed woman approached police reporting a naked male on a path west of the store.

Officers found a partially clothed man committing an indecent act and placed him under arrest.

The 25-year-old was out on a release order and was subject to multiple probations.

He was held for bail.

"The Sarnia Police Service is aware of the community concerns in the Laurel Lee area and are actively taking step to address them. It was fortunate that officers were already active in the immediate are when these calls were received," said Police Chief Derek Davis.
