Former Sting coach to lead Strathroy Jets

A former Sarnia Sting head coach is returning to the region.

Jacques Beaulieu has been named the new head coach of the Strathroy Jets.

Beaulieu led the Sarnia Sting from 2011 to 2013. He also served as the head coach and general manager of the Saint John Sea Dogs in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMHJL).

"It's a great opportunity for me, I really wanted to get back into the game," said Beaulieu in a news release. "Being local and myself being a former Jet, and watching a few games this year, when Bob (General Manager Bob Lalich) and Mark Van Geffen (Team President) approached me, I definitely had some interest."

The announcement coincides with the Jets entry into the Northern Premier Hockey League (NPHL) as part of its newly established Metropolitan Division.

The division will feature matchups against teams such as the Alvinston Killer Bees, Tilbury Bluebirds, and Woodstock Lakers.

The now 57-year-old coach was involved in an altercation at a house party in Strathroy in April, 2013, which resulted in assault charges against him and his son.

The pair pleaded guilty and were granted conditional discharges with probation.
