Route changes announced for HSAT

Huron Shores Area Transit (HSAT) is making a few changes as it continues to operate with support from municipal and First Nation partners.

As of May 31, Route 4 between Grand Bend and Strathroy will be discontinued.

"This decision was made after an extensive review process focused on optimizing service delivery and working with committed municipal partners to secure sustainable funding for the transit service in each community it serves," read a media release from the Municipality of Lambton Shores.

Meanwhile, new stops and additional buses will be added for other routes in order to meet a growing demand.

A new stop in Plympton-Wyoming will be added to Route 1 and a new stop in Bluewater will be added to Route 2. Additional buses will also be added to Route 1 and Route 2 to accommodate seasonal workers and area visitors.

"These additions reflect our dedication to expanding our network with new municipal partnerships and enhancing accessibility for residents and commuters in our region," read the media release. "The updated maps for Route 1 and Route 2 will be shared on the HSAT website."

Recent funding commitments from Lambton Shores, Municipality of Bluewater, Municipality of South Huron, Town of Plympton-Wyoming, and Kettle & Stony Point First Nation have enabled HSAT to continue operations.

Funding under the Ontario Community Transit Grant Program ended in late March, and Lambton Shores contributed $50,000 to keep the inter-community transit service running until April 30.

As of May 20, Lambton Shores hasn't heard anything official from the province regarding its funding application under the Ontario Transit Investment Fund.

However, municipal staff told Sarnia News Today that the application was well received, and staff and council remain optimistic the province will fund HSAT.
