Kids Bike Rally ready to roll

A local grassroots collective, nuSarnia Foundation, is "pumped" to hold its second annual Kids Bike Rally in mid-June.

The event aims to promote bike safety among children 12 and under.

"This is a way that we're showing the younger generation ways to get around the city, to be confident, independent, and enjoy themselves at the same time," said Community Partnerships and Events Manager Kerry Gabriel.

The bike rally will be held at Lambton College, in the north parking lot and along the Midtown Trails.

Gabriel said a Sarnia Transit bus will be on site so families can practice mounting their bikes. There will also be a 3.7 kilometre trail ride, obstacle courses, bike decorating, and prizes.

"We've got Husky Hustle, a riding crew in town, and they're actually going to be on site to help kids with their bikes -- just to check them over for safety," said Gabriel. "We have some fantastic vendors that are going to be out on the Midtown Trail, the Howard Watson Trail, and around back into Lambton College that are going to ask questions for the kids and they're going to learn about the programs those vendors are offering to the community. They will get a sticker in their passport, which they can win prizes with at the end."

Gabriel said the event has grown from last year, as more community partners have stepped up to support the event.

The bike rally itself will be held on Saturday, June 14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. However, community members are asked to register online by Monday, June 9.

It's free to attend. The first 200 kids to check in will receive a swag bag.
