Lambton museums to host PA Day activities

Two Lambton County museums will be hosting PA Day events on Friday.

On June 6, the Oil Museum of Canada will have a drop-in event to shine light on the renewable energy of solar power.

Activities include creating a sun print using light sensitive paper, completing a sun-themed scavenger hunt, building a solar fan tower and planting a sunflower or tomato plant to take home.

"This event is a chance for families to explore the different ways we use solar power; from the science we already use today to ways we might use it in a sustainable future," said Educational Program Coordinator Christina Sydorko.

Meanwhile, the Lambton Heritage Museum will host a drop-in event exploring the process of food decay and preservation.

There will be interactive demonstrations at 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. sorting food packaging based on how it preserves freshness, observing the work of decomposers as they break down food, and creating take-home crafts inspired by the A Taste of Science exhibition.

"Spoiled Rotten is a great opportunity to introduce kids to the important topic of food safety in a way that is fun, interactive and age- appropriate," said Educational Program Coordinator Colleen Inglis. "Whether it's deciding if different germs are heroes or villains, or identifying where specific food packaging should be stored in their kitchen, the knowledge they'll gain in these activities can easily be applied to their everyday lives."

Both events will be held from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. and registration is not required.

Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and students and $3 for children.

Children aged three and under are free.
