Canada's 158th birthday is being celebrated over one week early in the Village of Point Edward.
A Canada Day event planned for Thursday, June 19 was moved to Optimist Hall following unexpected weather.
Mayor Bev Hand said the reason why it's held early is because the village helps with Sarnia's Canada Day event.
"When we do our own party at the waterfront, then we are freeing up our citizens to be able to attend the Canada Day parade and festivities on the actual Canada Day," she said.
The event has been held in this format for the last several years.
Some activities include inflatables and games
Hand said while some things are not new, there have been some additions.
"There's glitter tattoos, face painting, balloon art, a photo booth -- I don't think we've always had a photobooth in the past, and the free pizza, cupcakes, snow cones, candy floss, and popcorn, and live music by Totally Acoustic," she said.
Hand said the park gets pretty full for the party.
"It's always well attended and then there might be people who are walking along the waterfront and they say, 'oh what is this party? Can I pay and come?' and we say, 'no you can just come,'" she said.
The free event will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.
