Oversized transport trucks caught without permits

A trucking company is facing hefty fines after two oversized transport trucks were stopped by Sarnia police for allegedly travelling off the designated heavy truck route without the required permits.

City police said the trucks were stopped on Exmouth Street, near Parker Street, at around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

In addition to not having the proper permits, the Sarnia Police Service (SPS) said the trucks also failed to secure a necessary police escort.

"Due to their oversized dimensions, the loads also required a police escort to ensure public safety while moving through city streets, an escort that had not been arranged," said an SPS media release.

The trucking company was directed to get the necessary permits from the city and arrange for a police escort.

Officers later ushered the trucks out of the city once the permits were acquired.

Twenty Provincial Offence Act notices were issued to both drivers and the trucking company. The charges are listed below.

- Disobey sign – Section 182(2) HTA – $110.00

- Operating a heavy truck in a restricted area – Section 24(a) City of Sarnia Bylaw – $490.00

- Failure to produce permit – Section 110(6) HTA – $390.00

- Operating an overlength vehicle – Section 109(6) HTA – $390.00

- Operating an overwidth vehicle – Section 109(2) HTA – $390.00
