One lane of traffic on the westbound Highway 402 at Mandaumin Road will remain closed for an unknown amount of time because of "evolving concrete issues" in the area.
OPP announced the left lane closure on Sunday night, while the right lane remains open.
"The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) and our service provider are continuing to monitor these locations and are actively working on a plan to address. At this time MTO made the decision to close lane 1 to traffic on Highway 402 due to the evolving concrete issues in this area," read an MTO statement, forwarded by OPP to Sarnia News Today. "These concrete panels are unpredictable at this time, due to the rapidly changing road temperatures and we are erring on the side of caution while we procure our emergency work plan to address the Highway 402 concerns."
The westbound lanes between Oil Heritage Road and Mandaumin Road were temporarily closed in June after the extreme heat caused the pavement to buckle. At the time, the MTO said permanent repairs would be done in the fall.
On Monday July 7, the MTO said the highway is down to one lane again in that area due to road conditions.
Lambton OPP is using this as an opportunity to ask drivers to plan ahead by checking 511on.ca for road closures or reported damage.
Motorists are also encouraged to make sure their vehicles are safe to drive, to slow down when necessary, to watch for debris, and to leave extra space between vehicles.
Debris seen on the roadway can be reported to police by calling 1-888-310-1122.
