Local entrepreneurs benefit from grant program

Ten local businesses are recipients of funding under the 2025 Starter Company Plus program by Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership (SLEP).

Participating industries include bridal fashion, specialty cafes, health and wellness, recreation and advanced manufacturing services.

It's delivered through the Business Enterprise Centre (BEC) and funded by the Province of Ontario.

Each business will receive $5,000 in grant funding, access to a tailored business program and peer support forums.

"These business owners are doing more than running a company. They are creating jobs, filing gaps in our communities, and helping shape what life looks like across Sarnia-Lambton," said SLEP CEO Matthew Slotwinski. "Starter Company Plus gives them support at critical stages of starting or expanding, and we are proud to help them build businesses that add values to the region."

Rebecca Sletten of Red Bird Grief Care is one of the participants.

The business offers compassionate grief support services for children and families. It provides tools, guidance and presence to help families navigate illness, loss and healing with heart-centred care.

BoWaine Ma and Amber Harding with Siren Section is another group in the program.

It is a women and queer focused surf and skate club operating in Sarnia, Lambton Shores, and London.

The goal is to create a safe space for participants to make new friends, try something new and invest in growth.

Other businesses involved are Aliya Bridal Fashions, Stone and Barrel, Tempest Industries, Cakebook Cafe and Classes, All Hours Home Care, The White Lantern B&B, Heroic Audio Productions and JLS Pro Painting.

According to SLEP, many alumni of the program have gone on to expand operations, create new jobs, and build long-term stability for themselves, their families and their staff.

"Entrepreneurship takes courage, diligence and resourcefulness. This program is designed to recognize all three," said Manager of the Business Centre Alison Minato. "The application process is competitive and requires significant effort. We are thrilled to see so many great businesses brewing in Sarnia-Lambton and to be able work with these entrepreneurs in particular as they learn. grow and build their businesses."

Those wishing to get information on how to apply for 2026 are encourage to go on SLEP's website.
