Charges have been laid against a 37-year-old woman who allegedly caused a disturbance in downtown Sarnia and tried to break the front door windows at The Lawrence House Centre For The Arts.
Sarnia police officers were called to the historic building on Christina Street South on September 4 at 12:55 a.m.
A woman found nearby, who has had 135 interactions with police over the past year, was detained as officers investigated.
A citizen captured the incident on video using their cell phone. Police said the video showed the woman holding a large boulder and hitting the front door multiple times.
The stained glass windows of the front door were cracked and scratched, resulting in approximately $500 worth of damage.
She was also accused of yelling and screaming in the area.
As a result, she was charged with mischief under $5,000, causing a disturbance, and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
The accused was remanded into custody following a bail hearing.
The Sarnia Police Service said the police interactions with the accused since September 2024 included 11 arrests and 61 charges, 12 of which were for failing to comply with probation orders.
According to the Lawrence House's website, it was built in 1892 and officially opened as an arts venue in 2001.
