World Suicide Prevention Day is being marked locally on Wednesday, September 10.
The Sarnia-Lambton Suicide Prevention Committee is hosting an event at the Point Brewing Company from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Spokesperson Liz Page said there will be live music, treats from Cheese Wedge, and opportunities to get a real tattoo.
"Some folks might get a semicolon, a "My Story Isn't Over" tattoo, or there's been some folks indicating their interest in a heart. So, just something meaningful to that person and some of the proceeds will come back to suicide prevention. Which is amazing," Page said.
Yellow signs, ribbons and displays have also been placed around the community to symbolize hope and connection.
"In collaboration with Talk for Tamara and Project Mental Wellness our committee has been planning some awareness events and Lambton Mall has a great display right now and it will be there all day with some volunteers on hand to connect with folks," said Page.
People will gather around the world and at events across Canada to remember and celebrate the lives of those who have died by suicide, to comfort those who grieve the loss of a loved one to suicide and to strengthen connections.
