The deputy fire chief with the Petrolia and North Enniskillen Fire Department is hanging up his helmet after 25 years of service.
Darren Allan has participated in his last fire call and retired.
He was presented with his 25-year service medal at Petrolia's council meeting on Monday.
Fire Chief Rick Cousins said in his time with the department, Allan made a lot of friends in the community.
“He will be missed at the hall, and at calls," Cousins said. "Darren has been a constant for many years and has left in his wake a noticeable gap in our organization. Although he will be missed, we look forward to hearing about his retirement adventures and wish him the very best.”
Cousins said Allan rose through the ranks after joining the department as a probationary firefighter in 2000.
He spent seven years as a regular firefighter before being promoted to platoon captain and in 2020, he was promoted to deputy chief.
During his time with the fire department, Allan also served seven years in the Canadian Armed Forces Reserve as a noncommissioned member.
Allan's replacement has yet to be announced.
