Sarnia police shut down illegal alcohol operation

A brewing company police allege was operating illegally in Sarnia has been shut down.

The Sarnia Police Service (SPS) was notified by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) in July that Triple Eh Brews was allegedly operating under a false manufacturer's licence.

It's alleged Triple Eh Brews was using the fake licence to operate at summer festivals and markets across the province, as well as using online delivery services such as Uber Eats and Door Dash to sell their illegally manufactured alcohol.

An investigation by the SPS Intelligence Unit learned the owner of Triple Eh Brews was allegedly operating an illegal distillery.

Search warrants were executed on September 18 at a residence on Lanark Drive and a commercial building on Green Street.

Police say they seized counterfeit manufacturer’s licences, 288 bottles of illegally manufactured alcohol, distillery equipment, a point of sale machine, as well as digital devices and a printer.

A 35-year-old Sarnia resident faces several charges, including two counts of uttering forged documents, possession of a counterfeit mark, and unlawfully possessing liquor, contrary to the Liquor License and Control Act 2019.

They were released with a requirement to appear in court at a later date.

Meanwhile, police said the investigation is ongoing.

"Unlicensed alcohol production and sales pose significant risks to public safety. The AGCO will continue to work closely with our law enforcement partners to identify and address any activities that undermine the integrity of Ontario's alcohol sector and jeopardize consumer well-being," said the AGCO Registrar and CEO Dr. Karin Schnarr.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the SPS Intelligence Unit at 519-344-8861.
