Sarnia police charge pair with drug trafficking

Sarnia Police Service seized a large quantity of suspected illegal drugs and charged two people with trafficking after an arrest on Friday.

Around 10 p.m. on September 26, an officer was conducting general patrol at a motel in the 1700 block of London Line.

According to police, they observed a white U-Haul truck parked in the parking lot with several people standing near it. When the officer approached the vehicle and occupants, they allegedly observed drug paraphernalia in plain sight on the centre console the vehicle.

SPS said while in the process of arresting a 29-year-old female, they were approached by "an agitated male who attempted to step between police and the woman."

The 47-year-old man identified himself, and claimed the vehicle was his, resulting in SPS placing him under arrest.

Investigation later revealed that the man was subject to two probation orders with conditions to keep the peace.

According to police, a search of the man revealed a large quantity and variety of suspected illegal drugs, scales, and cash. A search of the vehicle also resulted in the discovery of drugs, drug trafficking paraphernalia, two homebuilt conducted energy weapons, and a flare gun with flare ammunition.

The 47-year-old man was charged with drug trafficking, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and two counts of breach of probation. He was held for bail.

According to SPS, a search of the woman also found her to be in possession of several small bags of suspected Methamphetamines, a small scale, and a small quantity of Canadian currency.

The 29-year-old was charged with drug trafficking and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and released with conditions.
