Construction of Kenwick Park splash pad to begin this week

Construction of a brand new splash pad at Kenwick Park in Bright's Grove is expected to get underway Tuesday, October 14.

The project is being made possible through a generous donation from the Pat and Val Gladwish Foundation, which was approved by Sarnia council in March.

Val brought the proposal to council, in honour of her late husband Patrick, after being inspired by a similar splash pad in Orillia and the hours spent enjoying that location with her grandchildren.

"Supporting this initiative is a meaningful way for our family to honour the memory of a beloved husband, devoted father and proud grandfather. We view this project as both a legacy to Pat’s values and as an investment in the continued growth of the community," she said.

Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley commented on the project.

“We’re happy to see this project moving forward and grateful to the Pat and Val Gladwish Foundation for making this meaningful community space possible — a place that will bring families together for years to come," he said.

The city said the pad at Kenwick Park will include natural water features that will keep families active.

It's being built by Southwest Fence and Decks Limited, and it's hoped construction will be complete in the spring of 2026, ahead of the aquatics season.

The city will cover the ongoing maintenance and operational costs.

Impacts to the park are expected to be minimal during construction.

Residents can look forward to a grand opening celebration in the new year.
