Lambton EMS responded to fewer opioid related overdose calls in 2025.
According to the latest Opioid Bulletin from Lambton Public Health, paramedics were called to a total of 194 opioid overdose related calls last year, down from 273 calls in 2024.
The highest number of calls last year were in August, when EMS handled 31 such incidents.
In March and October, Lambton Public Health issued advisories about increases in suspected opioid toxicity.
According to preliminary data included in the bulletin, there were 14 opioid related overdose deaths in Sarnia-Lambton in the first nine months of the year.
There was a total of 35 confirmed opioid overdose deaths in 2024.
Since 2019, the local rate of deaths related to opioid poisoning has been higher than the provincial average.
Residents are reminded that free naloxone kits are available at Lambton Public Health and at local pharmacies.
Last year, the health unit distributed 2,827 nasal spray kits and 55 injectable kits.
Drug users are also reminded the Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act protects you from simple possession charges, in the event you have to report an overdose or call 911.
