Plympton-Wyoming approves 2026 budget with 2.5 per cent tax increase

The Town of Plympton-Wyoming has its spending plan in place for 2026.

Mayor Gary Atkinson signed on Monday a decision not to use strong mayor powers to veto any amendments passed by councillors last week, thus adopting the budget with amendments.

The amendments total $91,723.64.

The budget includes a 2.5 per cent property tax increase, which translates into an additional $18.46 yearly per $100,000 in assessed value.

Councillors also passed a bylaw last week setting sewer and water rates for the year. Residents will pay 3.6 per cent more for water, and 4.4 per cent more for sewer.

"Mayor Atkinson would like to thank Town staff for their hard work and dedication in helping him prepare the budget," read a release from the Town. "He also commends Council for their exceptional teamwork and commitment to the community. By working collaboratively, Mayor Atkinson, Council and staff have brought forward a budget that supports the community’s continued success while maintaining strong fiscal responsibility."
