County to host public sessions to discuss housing, homelessness

Two public consultation meetings will be held in the coming weeks as the County of Lambton updates its 10-year Housing and Homelessness Plan.

The plan is expected to support local decision-making and set clear goals to address community needs.

A survey was also held in order to gauge public input.

An in-person community session will be held on Wednesday, February 25, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Pat Stapleton Arena in Sarnia.

A virtual session will also be held over Microsoft Teams on Wednesday, March 4, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Residents who would like to participate in one of the sessions are asked to sign up online.

General Manager of Social Services Melissa Fitzpatrick said the public sessions are separate from the consultation events recently held to discuss affordable housing plans at the former St. Bartholomew’s Church.

“These upcoming sessions seek public feedback and perspectives from citizens regarding housing and homelessness throughout the entire county to make sure our Housing and Homelessness Plan updates are reflective of current needs overall,” she said in a media release.

The updated plan is expected to be shared with county council in late spring.
