Lambton Public Health (LPH) is reporting a year-over-year increase in opioid overdose related EMS calls.
In its latest Opioid Bulletin, LPH said there were 36 related EMS calls in May, that's double the number of calls reported during the same month last year.
To date, Lambton EMS has responded to 149 calls for opioid poisonings (OD), that compares to 62 during the first five months of 2025.
The bulletin said the rate of deaths related to opioid poisoning (OD) in Lambton County has been higher that the provincial average since 2019.
Based on preliminary data, the rate of opioid related deaths in Lambton last year was 14.6 per 100,000, down from 24.46 per 100,000 in 2024
Lambton Public Health is reminding the public that free naloxone kits are available at the Exmouth Street health unit and at local pharmacies.
Drug users are also reminded the Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act protects you from simple possession charges, in the event you have to report an overdose or call 911.
