The Watford Legion is hosting a multitude of events for its Centenary Celebration.
Branch 172 has a weekend full of family-friendly activities planned.
"It's for the 100th year of all Royal Canadian Legions. We are starting ours on Thursday night, where we have an open games night, which will include cornhole, darts, and pool, where you bring your own bags and darts. The bar will be open, and it is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 17. The bagpipes will be there at 5:30 p.m., followed by our meat raffle, Chase the Ace and 50/50. Following the meat raffle, we will have live music by Off the Cuff," said Legion Coordinator Charlotte Wilcox.
She said there will be many games to play and delicious food to be eaten.
"On Saturday, July 18, our opening ceremonies will be at 1 p.m., we will have our mayor there, and we will have a group from Sarnia doing the bagpipes again. We will also have kids' activities from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. We will have a photo booth and live music by Sisters of Choice from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. We will be having a rib dinner where people can purchase tickets in advance. After that, we will be having line dancing with boots and bellies. Then on Sunday, July 19th, we will be doing a breakfast from 8 a.m. till 12 p.m.," she said.
The celebrations are a way to bring the community together and show support for the local legion and veterans.
"We want to make sure people know what the Watford Legion is about because we have a lot of veterans, and we want to make sure the veterans are honoured," said Wilcox. "We donate to the veterans and different organizations to do with vets, so we want to bring people into the community to remember our veterans."
The event runs from Thursday, July 16, to Sunday, July 19.
