Police ID suspect in Centennial Park stabbing

Sarnia police have identified a suspect accused of stabbing a woman at Centennial Park on Monday afternoon.

It happened at around 4:30 p.m., near the end of George Street.

William Gallerno, 45, is wanted on charges of assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, and failure to comply with a release order.

Police said the female victim was approached by a man who looked distressed and offered him the use of a bench.

It's alleged the suspect became agitated, walked behind the victim, and stabbed her in the back of her upper arm.

He took off before police arrived and officers were unable to locate him.

The woman sustained non-life threatening injuries and was treated at the scene.

Based on camera footage from nearby businesses, police were able to identify a suspect. They said he now has shorter hair than in his previous mugshot photo.

Police said if you see Gallerno, or have information leading to his whereabouts, call 911.

Don't approach him, maintain a safe distance and contact police immediately.
