Nomination window for fall election closed

The deadline to file nomination papers has passed, and the unofficial candidate list for the fall municipal election has been compiled for final review.

As of 2:30 p.m. on Friday, August 21, a handful of candidates were vying for the mayor's seat in Sarnia.

Incumbent Mayor Mike Bradley, City/County Councillor Bill Dennis, Scott Molson, Carrie McEachran, and George Stanko are campaigning for the position.

City/County Councillor Chrissy McRoberts had originally filed to run for the mayor's seat as well, but withdrew her name from the race on Thursday, August 20, and is seeking re-election to her current role instead.

There are 17 people running for one of four city/county councillor positions and a total of 21 people vying for one of four city councillor positions.

The full list, including those running for local school board trustee positions is available through the city's website.

In the Village of Point Edward, there is a two-way race for the mayor's seat. Deputy Mayor Greg Grimes is running against Councillor Paul Burgess. Mayor Bev Hand is not seeking re-election after 10 years.

In Petrolia, Joel Field is running unopposed for the mayor's position. Mayor Brad Loosley announced in February he would not be seeking another term.

There's a two-way race for mayor in St. Clair Township. Bruce Gibson is running against incumbent Jeff Agar

Incumbent Gary Atkinson is being challenged for the mayor's seat in Plympton-Wyoming by Tim Wilkins.

In Lambton Shores, Jeff Wilcox filed his nomination papers on August 21 to face incumbent Mayor Doug Cook.

Todd Case is seeking re-election in Warwick Township unopposed.

There are four names on the ballot for mayor in Brooke-Alvinston. Marcus Deloughery submitted a late entry on deadline day to join current Councillor Don McCabe, Tom Scott, and James Armstrong in the mayoral contest.

In Enniskillen Township, incumbent Mayor Kevin Marriott is running unopposed, and incumbent Mayor Ian Veen is also running unchallenged in Oil Springs.

Incumbent Mayor Alan Broad is seeking another term in Dawn-Euphemia.

Voters will head to the polls on October 26.

Most municipalities have indicated that their list of candidates seeking election will become official on Monday, August 24.
