No, you can't flush a tree

In a bizarre message shared over social media, the Municipality of Lambton Shores is asking residents to not flush the landscaping.

A photo shared on Facebook shows a sapling inside the toilet of a new washroom facility in Forest.

The year-round washroom opened to the public this past summer after the municipality received a $122,900 capital grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

According to the post, the newly planted tree was pulled out of the ground at a public park.

"Vandalism and mischief at our parks and municipal facilities means staff time and taxpayer dollars are spent repairing unnecessary damage," read Lambton Shores' Facebook post. "This type of thing isn’t worth the damage left behind."

A Good Samaritan was thanked for reporting the issue to the municipality and transplanting the tree back to where it belonged.

Those who notice damage, garbage, maintenance, or cleanup needs at a municipal park or facility are asked to report it using the online portal, lambtonshores.ca/report.

The municipality also encouraged resident who witness vandalism or mischief, to contact OPP.

Licensing and Communications Manager Alex Boughen confirmed to Sarnia News Today, the incident was reported to Lambton OPP.
