The Owen Sound Attack began the new year on the right note, snapping a seven-game losing streak by beating the Sarnia Sting 5-3 on Friday.
Pierce Mbuyi opened the scoring for the Attack as the teams played four-on-four following offsetting roughing calls on Jake Crawford and Tyler Challenger. The Sting would also take advantage of the extra space on the ice, responding with their own goal by Easton Walos just over a minute later.
However, Crawford would score shortly after coming out of the box to give Owen Sound a 2-1 lead at the break.
The Attack would open the floodgates in the second period. Tristan Delisle potted a shorthanded goal, Caden Taylor scored as well, and Mbuyi added his second. Mbuyi and Delisle each have 22 goals on the year, tied for the team lead.
Sarnia attempted to mount a comeback in the final frame. The Sting tilted the ice with a dominant 20-2 shot advantage, as Liam Bemish and Jacob Reese both found the back of the net. Ultimately, the deficit was too large to overcome.
Matthew Koprowski stopped 43 of 46 shots to secure the win for Owen Sound, while Patrick Quinlan had 15 saves in the loss.
Owen Sound is back in action Saturday night, as they host Peterborough for their first home game of 2026.
Sarnia is off until Wednesday, when they go to Flint.
