The John McGivney Children's Centre in Windsor is launching its newly redesigned child care program for kids between 18-months and five years old.
CEO Elaine Whitmore says it's taken a lot of work since the province announced a new funding model back in 2012, which cost the centre more than $300,000 in base funding.
"We had to look at how we provided resource support in the classroom and how we provide program support," explains Whitmore. "So we worked with the City of Windsor and Ministry of Education in regards to that and got some support."
There had been a fear that the centre would be forced to close, but Whitmore says full-time daily fees of $45 and fee subsidies for families make the program sustainable for the long-term.
The new children's program accommodates 32 full-time kids with and without special needs in two classrooms, with the potential of expanding to 48 in three rooms.
