Windsor Company Paying After Employee Death

Canadian Electrocoating Ltd. in Windsor is facing a $175,000 fine after a worker's death in 2014.

That September, the provincial court says three men were loading parts onto a rack to be painted, when a forklift accidentally toppled a stack of bins holding auto parts, and it fell into their work station.

One man became trapped under the bins, which each weighed about 1,500 lbs, and died.

The court says the forklift operator was licensed and not at fault, as the stacks of bins had simply been placed too close together creating very little margin for error.

The workers' station was also too close to the bins, as the court explains it needed to be about 30 ft farther away due to the height of the bins.

Canadian Electrocoating Ltd. plead guilty to failing as an employer to ensure the Industrial Establishments Regulation was in place.
