Teachers Hold Second Ask A Teacher Event

Got a question about your child's education? Your chance to ask a teacher is Wednesday night.

The Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario Greater Essex is holding its second "Ask A Teacher" event at the Ciociaro Club in Tecumseh. Doors open at 6:30pm Wednesday. It is an opportunity for parents to share their questions, concerns and comments about the public education system in Ontario.

There are some topics the union is seeking public feedback on too.

"Specifically, class size, special education, standardized testing," says First Vice President Mario Spagnuolo. "A lot of government money is spent on standardized testing -- we'd like to hear what parents think and what the community thinks."

The union will use the feedback to advise the provincial government on where to focus funding.

This will be the second "Ask A Teacher" night. The first was held back in December. Since then, other locals across the province are holding their own events.

"Other locals have witnessed what we have done here, and they like the idea, so they're doing it in their areas as well," says Spagnuolo.

After Wednesday's event, Spagnuolo says the Greater Essex local will talk about whether they should hold the event again next year.
