New Car Celebrating Windsor Police History

The Windsor Police Service is unveiling a special cruiser to commemorate its 150-year history.

Chief Al Frederick says every design detail of the car's exterior was chosen with the anniversary in mind.

The black on the front end resembles police vehicles of the 1930s and 1940s. The hood, roof and truck were left white to honour the cruisers of the 1940s through 1960s. The Windsor police crest near the front door is similar to the one from the 1980s. The lettering is similar to that of the 2000s model cars.

Other design details include rear tail lamps that read "150 Anniversary," and the vehicle number on each corner honouring the badge number of Senior Constable John Atkinson who was killed in the line of duty back in 2006.

The new cruiser will be on display at a few events during the Windsor Police Service's week-long 150th anniversary celebration, starting May 1. Following that week, it will be in use as an everyday police cruiser in the City of Windsor.
