Three companies will have to pay some hefty fines after a worker was hurt during the construction of Windsor's South West Detention Centre.
The work was cleaning a circuit breaker back on May 28, 2013, when he made contact with live electricity. There was an arc flash which produced a large fireball. The worker had to go to the hospital.
Another worker put the fire out with a fire extinguisher.
Bondfield Construction of Concord was the contractor in charge of the project. It was convicted on two counts after a nine-day trial last May and has been fined $175,000.
J.M.R. Electric of Exeter installed electrical services. It was convicted of two counts, and fined $75,000.
Toromont Industries of Concord employed the worker and was convicted on three counts. It was fined $210,000.
The court also imposed a 25% victim fine surcharge under the Provincial Offences Act.
The companies were sentenced during a hearing in Windsor last August.
