Town Of Essex Eyeing More Industry

The Town of Essex is looking to grow its industrial sector.

Councillors want to extend municipal services like sewers and roads from Maidstone Ave., east of Hwy. 3 to Pinkerton and County Rd. 8, west of Hwy. 3.

Councillor Larry Snively made the motion during a meeting on Tuesday, and wants to know how much the move will cost. Snively says it's a great opportunity to attract more shops to town.

"We are ten minutes away, we're on a main artery going to Windsor. This is a great, great opportunity for us as a municipality to build a very, very solid tax base," says Snively.

The Town of Essex is ready to go with 80 acres of land recently zoned for industrial use.

Snively says Essex should go after it.

"This is an opportunity for us. I think as a council and to be fair with the town, to build a solid tax base we should be jumping at this," he says.

Snively says the town must tap into the industrial sector.

"Be ready and go after it. Be proactive, be aggressive, let's go after this industry because I'm sure if we could land five or six of those tool shops that's a very, very healthy tax base," he says.
